In “NO GOOD DEED GOES UNPUNISHED” news…

Thomas Rushworth was shot in the head while trying to protect a woman whose boyfriend was beating her.

Deshawn Poole, his girlfriend and another couple were at a Peachtree Corners restaurant on June 18, 2016 when Poole’s girlfriend and the other man got into an argument about food that was on the table. The other couple left, while Poole and his girlfriend walked outside after them, the Gwinnett County District Attorney’s Office said. Poole and his girlfriend then got into an argument that became physical, the DA’s office said.

Rushworth, who was inside the restaurant at the time, saw Poole assaulting the woman and went outside in an attempt to separate them. When Rushworth pushed Poole away from the woman, Poole and Rushworth started arguing. Poole then took out a gun and shot the Rushworth in the head, the DA’s office said.“

Rushworth sustained a gunshot wound to the left side of his head which has left him with a traumatic brain injury which impairs his memory and he also has hearing loss in his left ear,” a statement from the DA’s office said. “Rushworth was unable to remember what happened that night due to the injury he sustained.”

What’s even crazier about this story, yet to be expected…. Poole and his girlfriend fled to Ohio after the shooting. Yep, his girlfriend who he was assaulting, fled WITH HIM to another state. The two were eventually captured.

Update: For the senseless shooting of Mr. Rushworth, Deshawn Poole was sentenced to 25 years in prison for aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
